Be Your Fool 03:14
Wouldn’t be the first time love made a fool of me I showed you everything you weren’t supposed to see Now you saw my dark eyes You know how my heart hides Wish that I knew the same about you I think this time I’ll go and get a bit too close And when I lose you you’ll be my favorite ghost That makes me drive through town Right by your old house Past the shadows on the wrong side of the street While I was breaking my own rules You were just playing it cool I was so ready to be your fool I was so ready to be your fool Let’s go ahead and put some miles in between It’s a temporary way to sew up every seam Now you’re done hanging round here You’re seeing it so clear But you never tell me where you’d rather be Well I’ve been breaking my own rules Letting you treat me so cruel While you’re playing it so cool I was so ready to be your fool I was so ready to be your fool I was so ready to be your fool I was so ready to be your fool

Get Along 03:23
If I could turn back time and see you now I’d see the pain behind your eyes Knowing I hurt you less with things I said But more by the times I turned my head Here we were trying to get somewhere When you’ve always been right And I’ve never been wrong in my life Yeah, I think we got a real good chance of getting along tonight I see the porch light on outside my home Thought maybe you’d be passing through Where the time goes, I don’t think heaven knows Woah, but I’m sure you left too soon Here we were trying to get somewhere But you’ve always been right And I’ve never been wrong in my life Yeah, I think we got a real good chance of getting along tonight We’re here and we’re all trying to get somewhere But you’ve always been right And I’ve never been wrong in my life Yeah, I think we got a real good chance of getting along tonight Ooh, we’re gonna get along tonight
3.
With the way that I’m heading nowhere You’d think that I was trying to go there In my lonely room where no one gets in I can’t give the day a chance to begin Then here she comes She tells me all my work is done And when I lose her kiss Then I’ll know what dreaming is Standing on a ledge behind the church If I jumped, would you leave me in the lurch? I got my worried mind and this clamor in my head But I’m nowhere now, ought to go somewhere instead Then here she comes She tells me all my work is done And when I lose her kiss Then I’ll know what dreaming is And these little heart attacks Hope they’ll be coming back Then here she comes And I know all my work is done And when I lose her kiss I’ll know what dreaming is That’s when I’ll know what dreaming is
4.
Tonight I’m going nowhere Yeah I’m staying right here Been runnin’ round for so long Forgot to tell you how I feel And I’ve been trying to remember What I was hoping to find I guess all I really wanted was Someone to help pass the time Hey baby You’re special to my heart But maybe We’ve been lookin’ for love where love can’t start We got new dreams to dream now New places to go You wanna know if we’ll be back here Well honey how could I know? And I know we’ve had a good thing And it’s been growing so fast But there’s things in myself That I just can’t see past Hey baby You’re special to my heart But maybe We’ve been lookin’ for love where love can’t start Ooh, we gotta go where love can start Hey baby You’re special to my heart But maybe We’ve been lookin’ for love where love can’t start Ooh, we gotta go where love can start Ooh, we gotta go where love can start Woah, but we don’t have to go right now Hey baby
5.
I’m gonna cry all my tears tonight I shoulda known it couldn’t turn out right ‘Cause if I knew then You weren’t anything like you said I wouldn’t be a goner driving with my lights out So I’m gonna try to cry all my tears tonight Yeah, I’m gonna try to cry all my tears tonight Went out on the night and I played the fool Well it was different when it was me and you When someone said that tomorrow’s just around the bend And someday I’ll wake up without you in my head So I’m gonna try to cry all my tears tonight Yeah, I’m gonna try to cry all my tears tonight Yeah, I’m gonna try to cry all my tears tonight And when I’m finished with my sorrow I’ll try and love again tomorrow
6.
I’m driving you home First time in so long Turn the radio on And it’s just like I’m alone Outside your house You tore the playground down Guess you didn’t want Nobody playing around You said when I was lost you’d always take me in Now you say that there’s no way you’re doing that again Well I thought you could open some door But that just don’t work anymore I’m getting gone Up in my bedroom I’m singing my favorite song But the words just all sound wrong I’m sailing on a ship, baby, that don’t come in Wondering how it feels to even try to win Well I thought it could open some door But that just don’t work anymore It just don’t work anymore It just don’t work anymore Mmm
7.
How’m I gonna stop dreaming of you How’m I gonna stop dreaming of you How’m I gonna stop dreaming of you Nothing gonna stop me dreaming of you When you gonna stop acting like you do Stop breaking my heart, baby, right in two How long ‘til I know this feeling ain’t new And I could find some way to get to you Ooh, I want you in my arms Ooh, so I hold you from afar Then I go too far How long ‘til I know this feeling ain’t new And I stop getting my hopes up like I do Well I just can’t wait to see you Yeah, honey can’t you see I’m nothing new Ooh, I want you in my arms Ooh, but I’ll just hold you from afar Then I go too far How’m I gonna stop dreaming of you How’m I gonna stop dreaming of you And when you’re not the one I thought I knew Yeah, honey I’ll just keep dreaming of you
8.
You say you’re leaving here tomorrow Then your days won’t be filled with sorrow But that’s just another lie That won’t get you through the night When all you’re scared of is time But don’t walk out so fast I know this new love will last Won’t happen fast But I know this new love will last ‘Cause if you ever left something good Think how bad you’d feel No sense in just standing here crying if you were Doing it for the exercise EIther way I’ve Run out of ways to show I care And when I come home I know you won’t be there But that’s fair ‘Cause if you go for good You know it’s understood I know you’d stay if you could But don’t walk out so fast I know this new love will last Won’t happen fast But I know this new love will last This new love will last
9.
Last night the music was never-ending We dreamed of a love that was always beginning You held me so tight The feeling was right Before we let it die We knew that no good could ever come from this From each longing look on a sordid night of bliss The words left unsaid Turning our heads Before we let it die And our hearts so filled with fright Too scared to hear the songs we'd write Back home there's nothing that could undo this Now that strangers lie in the lovers midst They're fighting so frail Loving tooth and nail They should let it die They're gonna let it die They're going to let it die
10.
Honey I want control right now I wanna get satisfied, not get let down Everybody loves a happy ending Where nobody cries But we don’t even try And I know there’s gotta be more than this More to the whole thing than just a hug and a kiss You say you wanna make it work But you’re so scared of getting hurt So we don’t even try And oh, I think you’ve never been hurt before Been knocked on the floor Yeah, you’re so scared of love Never had your heart touched without a glove Well the hurtin’ comes when the whole thing is done Yeah, and we didn’t even get to the part that’s fun There’s still tears in your eyes Well that’s no way to say goodbye So we don’t even try Yeah, we don’t even try Yeah, we don’t even try
11.
So you wanted a song That we could always turn on When the day was getting dark I put a microphone to our hearts And I heard one heart singing how He was just so proud to love you And your heart was crying so loud Well I’ve heard enough Yeah, it’s just more fun to pretend Well I got nowhere to go And a new suit of clothes But I won’t say goodbye for good Like I know you wish I would When the fire is fading out I’ll throw a spark just to keep it burning It’s not my nature to give up When I’ve had enough Yeah, it’s just more fun to pretend It’ll never end
12.
It’s the first time you’ve not come home And I’ve been missing you Don’t know how our love got torn Wish I was kissing you And I’ve started thinking about How on Earth I’ll live without you now But don’t hold me to that If you want I’ll take it all back I was just trying to Picture my world without you But don’t hold me to that It’s what I said when I was sidetracked Yeah, I never meant to Live in a world without you My how the roses have grown Outside our bedroom door Well they must have liked the warmth But that’s not there no more You were tired of the tears in my eyes But were there not good reasons to cry? But don’t hold me to that If you want I’ll take it all back Yeah, I was just trying to Picture my world without you But don’t hold me to that I’m not saying it was all bad Yeah, I never meant to Live in a world without you Yeah, I never meant to Live in a world without you
13.
There’s a light that will return Woah, don’t let it fade out Though your plans have crashed and burned Still in a dream you can make out The heart that was so young at the start Is now looking for another spark It appears we had no choice With how the loneliness rolled in We’re pulled along by that old voice ‘Til we forgot what we came with The hearts that were so young at the end Are still clinging to what might have been We file the pain into the past ‘Til it’s all that we’re good for The promises we swore would last Well they all just fell short And we’re right back on the street again Two hearts so young at the end

about

Hang on and let go, Here She Comes is heading out. Ride with the fine melodies of this new Jake Manzi album (out Aug 1). Seek the exuberance of his pop. Float in the shuffle and caress of thirteen dreamy tracks that jangle and twang against the shores of your heartland. Let yourself go there, beyond the cool sand, where tenderness can find you where it’s fun to pretend. Lose those heavy burdens. Be a fool, move your feet. You’re welcome to all you find here, courtesy of Jake.

With a subtle touch for turning up pure song-stuff out of life, channeling the likes of Marshall Crenshaw and Tom Petty, of Lucinda Williams and Bruce Springsteen, of the Wallflowers and Keane, Manzi offers you his singular take on what contemporary pop-rock can be. Hear richly layered vocal, guitar, and keyboard harmonies impressed on thumping and elastic grooves from locked in drums and bass. Be transfixed by high-strung Gibson acoustics that weave enchanting moments with the mellotron and clavinet, with the farfisa, the organ, and twelve-string accompaniments.

Recorded live over four days at Spirithouse in Western Mass, Here She Comes sees the return of Griffin Goldsmith on drums, Jacob Rosazza on bass, and Caleb Rosazza on guitars and keys, with engineering by Danny Bernini and production by C. Rosazza and Manzi. Lush in tones of longing after all that’s left unsaid, Here She Comes with a wry smile and honest charm to bring the magic of the quiet moments we get caught up in and the hope in expectation for the joys of dreaming big.

Opening for acts like Ron Sexsmith, NRBQ, Lori McKenna, Joe Pug, Molly Parden, and Chris Collingwood, and collaborating with artists like Don Was and Mikaela Davis, Madison Cunningham and Dawes’s Griffin & Taylor Goldsmith, Jake Manzi is a songwriter to be reckoned with and a unique talent to be enjoyed.
